Gone Fishing Day is nearly here!
Yep, there’s an actual day dedicated to going fishing, so mark it in your diary and get the 4WD packed – Gone Fishing Day kicks off on Sunday 14 October.
The annual event is in its second year, and sees a whole bunch of fishing friendly events happening all around the country.
Here’s what you need to know!
The secret to happiness
According to the Gone Fishing Day website, the secret to happiness is, well, fishing. We tend to agree, which is why we hope everyone with a line gets to cast it next Sunday.
It’s the freedom and the fresh air, the silence of waiting for a bite that’s eons older than any ‘meditation’. The adrenalin rush of reeling in not just a catch, but the catch. The time spent connecting with your oldest mates and your littlest of little ones.
Living your best life
Whether you’re on a boat or casting off a jetty, we believe fishing really is one of the best ways to relax and unwind from the bustle of everyday life.
If you want to take part in an event for Gone Fishing Day, check out their website to see what’s in store for your state.
There are plenty of events for the whole family, from the Adelong Fishing Club’s Family Fishing Weekend on October 13 and 14 at Adelong Creek to the Wynnum Fishing Classic in Manly.
Of course, you don’t need to be part of an event to enjoy the benefits of fishing, which is one of the reasons we love it so much. Just get out there and cast a line!
Gone Fishing Day is presented by the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation and supported by the NSW Government Department of Industries, the Victorian State Government and the Government of Western Australia.
The Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation’s Code of Practice is designed to empower recreational fishers to make responsible decisions in the pursuit of their passion.
This includes best practice for catch and release fishing, as well as fishing for consumption. To download the full PDF, please click here.
