Top 5 challenges for boat lovers in 2019
We can’t believe 2018 is already old news! In the spirit of new beginnings, we’ve put together some challenges for boaties looking to kick-start 2019 with something new.
Are you ready?
Learn a new skill on the water
This year, we’re challenging you to learn a new skill on the water. Yep, branching out can be scary, but it can also be loads of fun.
Here are some suggestions that may inspire you!
- Have a go on a stand up paddleboard. (The river is best for newbies.)
- Take a kayak out for a spin (if you never have!).
- Get a lesson in kite surfing.
- Snorkel a reef or wreck near your town. (With a buddy of course.)
- Learn how to ride a jet ski.
- Give a different style of fishing a go.
Refresh your first aid
Whether you’re on land or water, knowing proper first aid is so important. If you attained your First Aid Certificate a while ago, consider brushing up on your skills with a refresher course. If you’ve never done a First Aid course, jump online and book one in your state.
Check your safety gear
If you’re a boat owner, we challenge you to check your flares, life jackets and other safety gear is in date and in working order. While you’re at it, see if you can gather flares and an EPIRB, make a radio call and put on a life vest in 30-seconds. It could save your life!
If fishing is your thing, we challenge you to create a special dish with your catch. It doesn’t have to be too fancy, just different to what you’ve made before. You’ll also win points with your mates or family. Here’s a link to some simple yet tasty recipe ideas.
Connect with fellow boaties
If you’re not involved with a boating community just yet, then our final challenge is for you. Whether it’s joining a Boating Community online or heading down to your local sailing club to join up or take part in an open day, we challenge you to get connected!
